Emergency Preparedness

Let me just say that at all the centers and schools that I have worked at all have plans for if a disasters hit or if the school was in danger. A center that I did work at previously did not have any types of disasters plans for fires, tornadoes, or even floods. I was shocked the director told me that she has all of her plans in her office. I was also concerned about the children not knowing what to do if we had a fire or even a tornado. What I decided to do for the center was to create a plan for every classroom on knowing about what to do encase of a fire. The appropriate steps to develop this plan were challenging, but I got help from all the teachers in the center. They all felt that we all needed practice for a fire drill to be prepared. As teachers, we understand that having a fire can occur at anytime. We also knew how important it was to keep our children safe. Everyone became very aware of the scenarios that could happen we also knew where to take all children. We even gave our students safety rules when we have fires.
One day our director had ask the fire department to come out to do a drill with the center. While we were playing in centers, the children heard a siren that did not sound like a familiar sound. When I told them, it was a fire the children acted quickly and got into safety mood. All the teachers knew to grab the important information in order to contact the parents. In the center, we all have a special crate that we keep important information in. Later that day we gave out brochures to our families about how to prepare their families for a disaster was too struck.  We also ask them to draw out a plan with their children about where to go and what to do in case of a fire.
